New Japanese Garden Design Book from Gardenproud

Monday, February 25th, 2013

If you’ve got a courtyard garden, or an area you want to develop in a very special way, then think Japanese.

We have recently been invited by Russ Chard to co author a helpful book for all you would be Japanese garden fans.

It’s called “11 Simple Ways to Turn Your Garden Japanese.”

The aim of this book is to inspire you and give you lots of useful ideas to add a ‘touch’ of Japan to your courtyard or garden.

Japanese gardens are beautiful, peaceful, simple spaces, steeped in history and meaning. With careful design they can help you create a unique tranquil space in your garden, whatever size it is.

Russ Chard is no newcomer to Japanese gardens.

He fell in love with Japanese gardens after a delayed flight in San Fransisco, he visited the famous Japanese garden in Golden Gate Park and developed his interest from there.

Russ lives in Herts and has visited many Japanese gardens worldwide in his job as a professional broadcaster.

He has also built his own small space Zen garden at his home and this spring will start work on a moss garden and a dry riverbed hill garden.

Russ has been writing about Japanese gardens and Zen gardens for over 10 years and has published 3 books, plus has 3 very successful websites on the subject.

Gardenproud helped co author Russ’s new book providing a case study of one of their most recent projects. In this case a garden was given the oriental touch. You can see more about this project on this blog, just look for our December article “A Japanese Oasis in Tunbridge Wells”.

Get your copy of “11 Simple Ways to Turn Your Garden Japanese”
today. It’s FREE!!!

To obtain your copy of the book as a PDF download just visit Russ’s site : http://www.turnyourgardenjapanese.com

You will also get a copy of his Japanese garden newsletter called ‘The Japanese Garden Bulletin’.

Winter Garden Repair Service

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

It’s at times like this that we can see the impact of the Autumn and Winter months on the garden. The lack of foliage often draws our attention to problems that need addressing.

It might be a broken fence panel or post, a shed roof that needs resurfacing, a patio or terrace that needs repointing, broken walls, lawn edging, decking surfaces that require cleaning and recoating, pathway and driveway repairs, or broken garden or water features.

These are just a few of the many tasks that you may be facing in the garden that are beyond the remit of your gardener, but nevertheless need attention.

The Gardenproud Landscaping Team are here to help. If you are interested we’d welcome the opportunity to call and discuss any particular tasks you would like addressed, or undertake a review of your garden and provide a list of potential repairs that might deserve consideration.

Now, while the garden is still relatively dormant, is the best time to address these issues.

If you would like us to help then please contact Tim Sykes on 07725 173820

Frosty Formality

A warm welcome awaits you when you meet Peter Brown at his gallery – The Pantiles Edge Gallery in Tunbridge Wells. “Frosty Formality” just happens to be the title of one of his unique paintings.

Gallery owner and local artist Peter has developed a captivating approach to depicting the “English Country Garden.”

His background in design shows through in the highly graphical and almost surreal interpretations of garden landscapes.

Here are a few more examples…..

Hey! Protect your eyes in the garden!

Monday, June 27th, 2011

And save 10% on a new pair of Sunglasses thanks to Gardenproud.

Summer is here and whether you are sunbathing, barbecuing or gardening looking after your eyes is critical.

As my optician recently reminded me, protecting your eyes against prolonged exposure to strong sunlight is pretty sensible. Particularly if you want to reduce the risk of cataracts, damage to eyelids, or even temporary blindness caused through sunburn to the cornea. For further information about the risks see www.epa.gov/sunwise/doc/eyedamage.pdf

Well the solution is simple. Wear sunglasses!

If you are sunbathing then pose away in your trendy designer specs! But if you’re in the thick of it, digging away in a rose bed, you’ll need something a bit more durable that can take the odd knock when you walk into a tree branch!

There are some good options here:

Oakley are re-knowned for their range of tough sunglasses that sports people the world over have adopted. They have a wide range from lighter models to heavy framed sunglasses. They also offer a good after-sales service so if there is an accident you can get your sunglasses repaired, including lens replacement.  Expect to pay between £60 – £150.

Another great option are Maul Jim sunglasses that are much lighter concept with polarized lenses coming as standard, so the clarity is superb. Maul Jim produce a wide range of styles to suit most tastes. Expect to pay around £100.

Ok, so where in Tunbridge Wells do you go?

There’s the perfect place.  Star Sunglasses. You’ll find them in Ely Court, just as you walk into the Victoria Place shopping centre from Camden Road.

They’ve got a terrific range of sunglasses, so there’s something to suit everybody.

And as a special offer to Gardenproud Customers there’s an exclusive 10% discount.

Just quote FLYSTAR when you buy online at www.starsunglasses.co.uk

Or call into the shop and quote the above code.

Enjoy the sun in your garden!

Floral Pictures by Carolyn Towers Wood

Agapanthas 47 x 57 cm oil and oil pastel, pale wood frame

From 2000 to 2002 Carolyn studied painting with the Open College of Arts and its tutor John Hicks. She also studied 20th century British artists and she says, “particular artists who were of interest to me!”

Her passion for learning and improving her techniques continues in the short courses and workshops with experienced artists she attends regularly.

Carolyn’s main areas of interest are colour, pattern and texture. She works with oils, acrylics and mixed media, usually on a surface which she has built up with collage and gels.

Her work has been exhibited in many shows throughout the south and south-west of England and in 2008 and 2009 she took part in the Hampshire and West Berkshire Open Studios scheme. In November 2009 an article appeared in “Picture Review” magazine promoting her work.

Carolyn’s paintings have been purchased by private collectors in the UK, France, Germany and the USA.

We are now delighted to offer a select group of Carolyn’s floral and landscape paintings through Gardenproud. They retail from £180, plus despatch.
